WATERING GREEN AREAS WITH NANOBUBBLES

Faced with water scarcity, it is necessary to find solutions to reduce the use of water used to irrigate green areas, parks, golf courses, clubs, etc.

By irrigating with oxygen nanobubbles, it is possible to restrict the watering time, without harming the quality of the pasture.

In other words, the benefits of injecting nanobubbles into the irrigation matrix are as follows

  • Water saving
  • Increased grass growth
  • Better plant development
  • Increased plant resilience

Methodology

An irrigation test with oxygen nanobubbles was carried out in the Bicentennial Park of Santiago during the months of maximum water demand (January – February – March). An area was irrigated with water with nanobubbles, to which the irrigation time was restricted by 50% and an adjacent sector irrigated with normal water and the standard irrigation time was used as a control treatment.

Results

In the sector irrigated with nanobubbles, the observable quality of the grass and its biomass levels were maintained. This reduction in water use corresponds to a saving of 26.8 m3/ha/day, which is equivalent to the average daily consumption of 167 people (based on the Metropolitan Region’s average of 160 L/person/day).

  • Watering restriction by 50%
  • Water savings in daily irrigation: 26.8 m3/ha
  • Water savings per irrigation season: 878 m3/ha

How nanobubbles work

  • Size – Cubic Capacity: The high mass transfer capacity of nanobubbles makes it possible to reach high levels of oxygen saturation in water, facilitating respiration and energy generation in plants and, therefore, their growth and development.
  • Stability: They remain in the liquid environment for a longer period of time than conventional bubbles.
  • Decrease in Surface Tension: Decreasing the surface tension of water allows it to easily enter the pores in the soil and become available to plants.

Testimony

“Honestly, I’m super surprised, because when you decrease the watering time everything looks normal…. In operational matters it doesn’t take up any of my time, on the contrary, they are experiments that are done super fast…… It’s a privilege to work with Kran, everything has been perfect so far… I think this kind of technology can be a lifesaver for the future.”
